Top 10 “Must See” films from 2015

As far as years go, 2015 was a great year for movies. We have carefully hand-picked what we believe are the top 10 must see films from 2015. You simply can’t go without watching the following..

Avengers - Age of Ultron

Avengers: Age of Ultron

12A, 2 hours 22 minutes, Si-fi/action

The second of the Avengers movies, and whilst not quite as good or as funny as the first, it still holds its own very well. The character bonding is already in place and a new enemy spawns its head to put the team’s efforts to the test. Action packed, and filled with plenty of entertainment, yes, the normal stuff, but done really well. If you don’t expect it to be as good as the first, then it won’t disappoint.

JurassicWorld

Jurassic World

12A, 2 hours 4 minutes, Si-fi/thriller

The fourth in the series, and after the second and third one, you would be forgiven for overlooking Jurassic world. This is a new take on the previous theme, the park is now up, running and successful. However, its very fortunate they started filming when they did, as it seems their new super dinosaur has managed to breach security. It’s not as good as the first, but definitely equal, if not better than the second and a great new attempt at keeping the Jurassic park brand alive.

Creed

Creed

12A, 2 hours 13 minutes, Drama/Sport

Another Rocky film …and we all love Rocky. However this is less about Rocky and more about Adonis Johnson (AKA baby Creed) who seeks help from Rocky Balboa and asks the retired champ to be his trainer. Will there be plenty of boxing? – yes. Is there drama? – yes. It ticks all the boxes and is probably better than the last couple of Rocky’s released.

Martian

The Martian

12, 2 hours 2 minutes, Fantasy/Si-fi

This is a great example of a survival movie, when a group of Martians, no wait, astronauts, leave Mars in a hurry and accidently leave one behind. Mark Watney (Matt Damon) who is presumed dead, has to fight for survival and use what little he has available to try and survive for as long as he can. Directed by Ridley Scott this film has all the ingredients to make it in to our 2015 Must see’s list.

Ex-Machina

Ex Machina

15, 1 hour 48 minutes, Fantasy/Mystery

Ex Machina is a concept that has been addressed many times before in other films, yet somehow manages to separate itself from all previous attempts. Artificial Intelligence is always a topic that leaves a lot open to the imagination, and usually leaves a chill down the spine. Our recommendation with this film is to read as little as possible about it before watching. We will say no more, off you go..

The Force AwakensSource: starwars.com

Episode VII: The Force Awakens

12, 2 hours 15 minutes, Fantasy/Si-fi

There were plenty of Star Wars fans out there waiting to judge the new director JJ Abrams when this was released. There were also lots of non-Star Wars fans/new-comers that had the opportunity to be won over. The end result was great, with this film bringing together a collection of new and old characters whilst keeping the same spirit of the old films. Filmed and styled in a modern manner and, without being a total CGI fest like episodes 1-3. Even if you are not going to attempt watching the previous 6 episodes, this is still a great entrance point to the series.

spectre

Spectre

15, 2 hours 30 minutes, Thriller/Action

Bond in Mexico anyone? Well this is Daniel Craig we are talking about, the Bond that doesn’t actually like to be Bond. But as far as action films go, this has some great moments, the opening scene is great, if a little over hyped. But all the scenes you wanted in SkyFall and didn’t get are here, including a decent length car chase for once. Time to get over M and enjoy Bond in full swing.

MockingJay Part 2

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2

12, 2 hours 17 minutes, Fantasy/Si-fi

So I’m not the biggest Hunger Games fan, but if you have invested your time in to watching the previous films in the series, you can’t miss the grand finale. The film runs pretty much how you expect it to, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) teams up with her closest friends and leaves District 13 to liberate the citizens of war-torn Panem, however the mission isn’t as straight forward as expected. This film had huge hype building up to its cinema release in 2015 and was every bit the ending the series needed.

Ant-Man

Ant Man

12A, 1 hour 57 minutes, Si-fi/Thriller

This film was an unexpected pleasure. This lesser known character from the Marvel range has a well put together story line and Paul Rudd (Ant Man) does a great job of bringing the Ant to life. Michael Douglas plays Dr. Hank Pym who is kicked out his own company by his protégé and requires the skills of master thief Scott Lang who has just been released from Prison. The characters are great and this quirky film shouldn’t be missed.

Furious7

Furious 7

12A, 2 hours 20 minutes, Crime/Thriller

The Fast and Furious series seems to have really picked up since number 5, and since they went more action rather than car fanatic. That said, we love the series here at Tech Addiction and Furious 7 does not disappoint. We have the usual crew involved including Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel),  Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker), Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson aka. The Rock), Tej (Ludacris), Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham)… the list goes on. Needless to say, its an awesome cast, the film is over the top in every aspect, its a great barrel of laughs and high-octane action. Finally, not forgetting, this is the last film we will see Paul Walker star in.

Bonus Round

As you can see from above, a great set of movies from 2015. But they weren’t the only ones, plenty of other films were released. For the old skool among us, two films stood out as worth mentioning, even if no other source on the internet will.

Straight Outta Compton

Straight Outta Compton

15, 2 hours 47 minutes, Drama/Biography

If you have ever at some point been in to the Hip Hop scene, and listened to some NWA, then this film is worth watching. Even if you are now in to more “grown up” music or have young kids, set aside some time and you will soon forget all that jazz and enjoy the energy and vibe from this depiction of the era.

Terminator Genisys

Terminator Genisys

12A, 2 hours 6 minutes, Fantasy/Si-fi

What you say, Terminator in the bonus section? Any one who grew up watching Arnie films or Terminator 1 and 2 will appreciate this film. Besides, if Mocking Jay can do so well, why can’t Terminator?  Certainly less hype on this one, and complaints of complicated story line (for real?). But if you ever wondered what it would be like to see two Arnold Schwarzenegger’s as terminators fight it out, or wondered what it would be like to see Emilia Clark (Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones) play a role outside of Game of Thrones, then this film is worth the watch.
